Exercise Beats Diabetes
Clinical Trial

The Exercise Beats Diabetes (BEAT-D) clinical trial will be the largest trial of its type in the world. People living with diabetes will explore different exercise strategies to beat diabetes.

If you choose to be in the trial, you will be randomly assigned to a specific exercise program for six months. Each program uses a unique approach to support and motivate you to increase your exercise.

All support is provided entirely online and at no cost. There are no face-to-face appointments. The program is delivered via digital platforms such as a smartphone and smartwatch, allowing you to participate wherever you are.

You may be eligible if you:

  • Are aged 18-80 years.
  • Have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
  • Have had an HbA1c test within the past 4 weeks.
  • If not, you may choose to join after your next test.
  • Are currently using, or planning to use, a wrist-worn smartwatch with heart rate monitoring.

Before you decide

We recommend discussing participation with your doctor or healthcare provider, particularly if you are unsure about starting or increasing exercise. You can download a Participant Information Sheet to review the full study details or share with your healthcare provider before providing consent.
